Evolving participatory exhibition for London Illustration Fair 2018

In December 2018, the Magic Depictor created a commissioned performance & exhibition in collaboration with the London Illustration Fair. The aim was to create a constantly-evolving collective portrait of the people passing through the Fair in Bargehouse, by mixing illustration & play and engaging the audience.

People would get their portrait drawn, and reply to a question asked by the Machine on a card. The answers would then be displayed on the wall alongside a Polaroid photo of the participants. The result was an exhibition giving the public a view of who had passed through the booth, reading the answers that strangers had given to fairly personal questions, and hopefully feeling more connected and uplifted.

The Magic Questions were:

"If you were Mayor of London for 1 day, what is the first thing you do?"

"Best song to wake up to in the morning?"

"Most beautiful thing you've seen this week?"

"What makes a new place feel like home to you?"

"If your friend is feeling down, how do you cheer them up?"

" What's the best advice to give to your younger self?"
